UX: Data Quality- Redesign of Data Profiling Product (2013 – 2015)

(UX, design workshop, competitive analysis, visualization, design validation, ACM Industrial Case Study Paper @ India HCI 2015)

For a complete case study of the entire process check the ACM paper.

Abstract:

This paper discusses the User Experience (UX) strategy at Informatica using a product case study to demonstrate how UX strategy was adapted to redesign and reinvent a product that had gone through multiple incremental releases over the years. It discusses the ways in which UX-driven technology trendsevaluation, heuristic analysis, and user feedback significantly informed the product definition and allowed Informatica to leapfrog the competition. Before and after examples of the product are included to demonstrate the huge strides that are possible when Product Management, UX, and Technologists all come together.

Existing product UI:

existing

Key issues with existing UI:

1)Separated results. Cannot see all column info in one integrated view.
2)No way to know whether new patterns emerged since prior run
3)Users want to have statistics visualized.
4)UX:  Pedestrian visual design, walls of numbers, drab gray color scheme, click-intensive, no flow
