Animal crackers

As a kid I remember referring to them as ‘bomma biscuits’. I still remember the bakery in the clock tower, the glass jars filled with these cookies, and the brown  paper bags they would pack them in. The cookies were pale in color, but they were pretty sturdy that an animal wouldn’t lose a limb on its way home. The fragrance of the cookie is trapped in memory like that of the fragrant cake with jam on the icing , the salt butter cookies, True’s T biscuit and many others from childhood. Wish there was a way to extract the fragrance from memory!

A friend had got me these cookies recently. They seem to have changed with time – they are less sturdy and therefore, more broken limbs; taste and smell different now. But the trip down the memory lane was priceless.
