The glass
You roll up your windows
Lock yourself in glass walls
Or in walls with glass holes
Or safe fences
And look out
You think it protects you
Insulates you
And yet gives you visibility
But, silently,
It is separating you
And isolating you
Isolating you into your walls
Away from the world
Wait not for that wave to crash the membrane
And throw you out
To make you realize
‘Looking’ is different from ‘being there’.
